Russian Circles – Dave Turncrantz
These Chicago post-rock badasses released what is one of my favorite albums last year with Memorial, an album that I described as being, “…for those who can find beauty in the icy realms and landscapes of black metal.” The dynamic shifts in music, from soaring, ethereal wonder to vicious, craggy lows is accented with great care by drummer Turncrantz, who pulls off fantastic little tricks to keep things not only interesting, but fascinating as well.
