Joanna Newsom – Ys
I tend toward songs that encompass a wide range of emotion, which naturally means I own a lot of manic pixie dream girl indie music. I won’t apologize, but maybe I also won’t put both Joanna Newsom and Lykke Li on my BD Playlist. Joanna Newsom is crazy. Just utterly out of control and her polarity really seeps through her music. There is never a calm moment, even in the calm moments, because you’re always waiting for the wind to change its course. And since I have a 37-second attention span, lots of tonal shifts make music enjoyable for me. “Emily” is like the “Lord of the Rings” of music.
