The Walton Experience – November 5th, 1975
Arguably one of the most terrifying alien abduction scenes ever filmed, Fire in the Sky has the honor of being based on a very true story (though the abduction scene in the film is nothing like what supposedly happened). Travis Walton disappeared while working with a logging crew in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest in Arizona. He was gone for five days before he mysteriously reappeared, claiming to have been abducted by a UFO. At first it was believed he had been kidnapped and murdered by the logging crew, but all 5 members took (and passed) a polygraph, claiming that they had indeed seen what they believed to be a UFO. After Walton’s return, he took a polygraph, which to this day remains mired in controversy due to the methods used during the test. In 1978, Walton published “The Walton Experience,” recounting his abduction and its aftermath.
