Scream 2 (10 Kills)
8. Phil Stephens
The trailers for Scream 2 teased Phil’s death like crazy with that knife through the door (it would show Ghost face stabbing the door and then cut to the blade coming out of a different door with Jerry O’Connell on the other side), so when he actually died it was pretty shocking. Also, Ghost Face’s whispers in the other stall are really creepy.
9. Maureen Evans
Maureen’s death probably has the most commentary on horror audiences than any other death in the franchise, which is what makes it so darkly humorous. Plus, it inspired this scene in Scary Movie, which should really be a “No Talking/Texting in a Movie Theater” PSA.
10. Cici Cooper
Sarah Michelle Gellar just can’t seem to stay alive in any horror movie she’s in (see: I Know What You Did Last Summer and The Grudge), and while her chase scene in Scream 2 can’t match the intensity of her chase scene in IKWYDLS, it’s still a fun watch. Don’t forget to set the alarm!
11. Randy Meeks
I don’t think anyone walked into Scream 2 expecting Randy to die, which is why his death really hit home. The Scream franchise has been accused of not being ballsy enough to kill off it’s main characters, which is a valid statement. At least they tried with Randy.
12. Officer Andrews
Another throat slash. Officer Andrews didn’t get to do much in Scream 2, and it was pretty much guaranteed that he would bite it. Bodyguard’s never last very long in horror movies (see: Scream 3).
13. Officer Richards
Richards’ death is much better than Andrews’. I swear I don’t think I noticed the pole through his head until a third or fourth viewing of the film. Talk about brutal!
14. Hallie McDaniel
Hallie’s death always came across as rushed (and censored) to me. It follows one of the most suspenseful scenes in the entire series which is why it was a bit of a letdown. Also, it’s hard to believe Mickey got out of that car and sneaked all the way around the construction to jump out and kill Hallie without her or Sidney seeing. I just don’t buy it.
15. Derek Feldman
A death by gunshot isn’t exactly the best way to die in a horror film (it’s not exactly original, as Rebecca Gayheart would say), but the emotional goodbye between Derek and Sidney made his death memorable. He really was a good guy!
16. Mickey Altieri
Aw Mickey, there’s never gonna be a trial! Much like Billy Loomis, he probably could have survived if he had just stayed down!
17. Mrs. Loomis
The Mrs. Loomis reveal gets a lot of hate (I love it), but Laurie Metcalf’s unhinged performance in the climax of Scream 2 is perfection. I love that her final bullet to the head mirrored her son’s death as well.
