Which Horror Films DO Deserve A Remake?

'The House on Haunted Hill'

Night of the Living Dead

Alright, here me out here, okay? Yes, this movie has gotten a TON of remakes and nearly all of them were pretty god awful. The 1990 remake wasn’t all that bad, but that’s because it was co-written by George A. Romero and directed by Tom Savini. Plus it starred Tony Todd, who is a joy to watch in every role he takes.

But what all these remake and reboot attempts failed to capture that the original held was that social commentary that is still quite applicable to this day. I remember when I took a course on horror films after Psycho at the University Of Michigan and we watched Night of the Living Dead as one of the requirements. We then spoke about the movie for three hours without once ever mentioning the word “zombie” because we were so focused on everything else happening in the film.

I want that. I want a smart remake that makes us question the society we live in and forces us to look at our own microcosms in a critical fashion. And today’s society is ripe for it.
