Annie Wilkes (Misery)
Misery has always been my favorite Stephen King novel. It’s a random one, to be sure, but it is what it is. Kathy Bates is phenomenal in the film adaptation (and deserved the Best Actress Oscar that she took home for it), but her counterpart in the novel is one hideous beast. One thing that sticks out about her is that her breath always smells like cookies, and King has a way of making it sound like the most grotesque thing ever. As much as I love Bates, I’ve always liked this horrifying representation of the character as well:
