Rose The Hat (Doctor Sleep)
People had a lot of problems with Doctor Sleep, King’s sequel to The Shining. I thought it was great. It was a different beast than the original, but it kind of had to be. The novel’s main antagonist, Rose The Hat, is a true force to be reckoned with. She is the leader of the True Knot, a group of nomadic vampires of sorts that feast on people who have the shining (they call it “steam”). Rose goes to any lengths to get what she wants and her desperation becomes apparent (and frightening) in the novel’s closing chapters. I know it will probably never happen, but I would love to see a film adaptation of Doctor Sleep, just to see Rose The Hat’s film interpretation. Personally, I think Cate Blanchett would be a perfect Rose. Also, this life-like sculpture of Rose in her true form is absolutely stunning:
