There are good movies and there are bad movies…and then there are terrible movies that are so off-the-wall mental that they must be seen to be believed.
Noted graphic novelists and animators Micah Wright and Jay Lender took a crack at the found-footage subgenre with They’re Watching, in theaters and On Demand March 25th.
I don’t want the headline to be misleading; They’re Watching is a painfully unwatchable movie…until the final 15 minutes.
The press release calls it “a fresh, funny, eye-popping twist on the genre.” It’s not fresh. It’s certainly not funny. But I’ll be damned if it isn’t eye-popping.
The finale of They’re Watching is an insane idea gone awry. It’s a CGI bonanza of epic proportions that can only be described as gluttony. It’s fucking batshit. It’s so off-the-charts that it may just find a following; some of you may end up loving it. And that’s great!
I’m just here to tell you that on March 25th you’re going to want to see this, even if you have to sleep fast-forward through an hour just to get to the “fun”.

In the film, “When an American home improvement TV show visits a remote Eastern European village, the young crew thinks the lack of mocha lattés and free wifi will be the worst of their problems. But after their filming interrupts the superstitious villagers’ private religious ritual, the situation takes a turn for the homicidal… and when the blood starts flowing, that’s when things get really weird.”
