What’s next from Alexandre Aja (High Tension, The Hills Have Eyes, Piranha 3D) in the wake of brand new Netflix movie Oxygen? Speaking with BD’s Boo Crew Podcast this week, Aja teased everything from a sequel to Crawl that’s in the works to an adaptation of Junji Ito’s Tomie that had been set up at Quibi, and he’s also working with Amblin on something special.
During the chat with the Boo Crew, Aja teased a choose-your-own-adventure project with Steven Spielberg’s production company, which may end up being one of his next movies.
“There are a lot of different creatures I want to play with. And different styles. We have this haunted house movie at Amblin with that control technology… that choose your own adventure type,” Aja told the Boo Crew. “But I don’t know when. It’s just taking so much time for everything to start again. Hopefully I’ll be on set again soon. A lot of exciting projects…”
Aja compared the mysterious project to Netflix’s “Black Mirror” special Bandersnatch, which similarly used choose your own adventure technology to allow viewers to control the outcome of the storyline. Presumably, this would also be some kind of streaming project.
