‘The Hunger Games’ Series is Getting the 4K Ultra HD Treatment!

4K Ultra HD is slowly, but surely growing and establishing a larger presence in the home video market. It remains to be seen if the format fully takes off, but every week we’re seeing more and more titles make the leap. Lionsgate has announced that all 4 films in The Hunger Games series will receive 4K Ultra HD combo pack releases on November 8, 2016. The Hunger Games is a hugely popular series with some breathtaking visuals that should take full advantage of what the picture quality the format offers. I look forward to seeing these colors pop in UHD! Full details below.

Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Linings Playbook) stars as Katniss Everdeen, the girl on fire, who took the world by storm with a four-film cumulative worldwide box office of over $3 billion! With four times the resolution of Full HD and High Dynamic Range (HDR) that delivers the brightest, most vivid and realistic color and greatest contrast, The Hunger Games, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 4K Ultra HD Combo Packs will each be available for the suggested retail price of $22.99 and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack will be available for the suggested retail price of $42.99.

‘Hokum’ Heads Home to Digital Tomorrow Ahead of Physical Media Release in August

After scaring up a strong theatrical run, Oddity director Damian McCarthy’s Hokum heads home to Digital this week.

Settle in for a spooky supernatural chiller as Hokum arrives on all Digital platforms to rent or own beginning June 2, followed by a Blu-ray/4K Ultra HD Combo and DVD release on August 11, 2026.

Adam Scott (“Severance”) stars in Hokum as reclusive novelist Ohm Bauman. When he retreats to a remote Irish inn to scatter his parents’ ashes, the staff’s tales of an ancient witch haunting the honeymoon suite take hold of his mind. Disturbing visions and a shocking disappearance draw Ohm into a nightmarish confrontation with the darkest corners of his past.

Peter Coonan (“The Alienist: Angel of Darkness”), David Wilmot (“Station Eleven”), Florence Ordesh (“Departure”), Michael Patric (“Frontier”), Will O’Connell (“Game of Thrones”), Brendan Conroy (“Bodkin”), and Austin Amelio (“The Walking Dead”) also star.

I wrote in my review for Bloody Disgusting, “A quaint Irish hotel with a deeply haunted history awaits an American writer in McCarthy’s third outing, continuing his streak for folkloric tales of supernatural karma and spine-tingling terror with a dark sense of humor.”

What’s next from Damian McCarthy? He’s currently writing a haunted house movie, but recent comments suggest he may be moving into other genres beyond that upcoming project.
