Over in France, the original Friday the 13th is headed to Steelbook Blu-ray in October, and the release’s artwork has been making the rounds on social media for all the wrong reasons.
The utterly confounding artwork bathes a mysterious figure in Argento-style blue lighting, and it’s pretty clear that the figure isn’t the film’s villain, Mrs. Voorhees. In fact, the figure is wearing what looks to be *half* of a hockey mask (a mask that didn’t come into play until part 3), and he/she is holding a chain that you surely don’t remember from the original film.
So is this Mrs. Voorhees…wearing Jason’s mask? And holding a chain for some reason?
The artwork was originally shared by EverythingBlu, a company specializing in exclusive Steelbooks. Needless to say, Friday the 13th fans have flooded the Facebook post with a laundry list of questions, including: “What’s with the chain?” “Is this for real?” and “What the hell?” It seems this artwork was also used over in the UK, for a re-release put out last year.
If, for whatever reason, you feel the need to own Friday the 13th with the all-time worst Friday the 13th artwork, you can pre-order your copy through Amazon France today.
For what it’s worth, the new Steelbook art for Friday the 13th ’09 isn’t much better.
What the hell are you doing over there, Warner Bros?!
