Developer Moonville Entertainment released a mesmerizing teaser trailer earlier today for Conscious Mind, the horror mystery game the studio first teased in December. Watching it gives the impression you’re seeing through the glassy eyes of a sleepwalker whose journey through cold corridors is peppered by surreal, but not quite sinister, visuals that give the whole thing a dreamy quality. It’s all very ambiguous, offering little in the way of concrete details, but it certainly makes an impression and Moonville promises “there is more to it than meets the eye. Prepare for a story of twisted minds and forget everything you think you know. This will be different.”
Conscious Mind is a welcome addition to the growing list of near-photorealistic psychological horror games inspired by the cancellation of Hideo Kojima’s Silent Hills — the developer even included a special thanks to Kojima with the video — but it also immediately sets itself apart as not being just another “haunted house simulator” like P.T. was. This is one to watch.
