WORLD OF DEATH Ep. 119 – Makeover / A Splinter of the Mind’s Eye

Greetings and salutations WoDer’s and welcome to episode 119 of World of Death. The films in this episode deal with illusion and secrets and the surprises that come from both.

MAKEOVER, shot, cut and directed by Mike Tack, begins with a heavily secured box being transported in to what seems like a military warehouse with armed soldiers and a fully staffed medical team. The opening of the box reveals a monster, a scene reminiscent of The Crate in CREEPSHOW, that is immediately subdued after a booming roar. Once the creature is removed from the box, the medical team begins to dissect the creature with saws cutting into the skin with sounds that reminded me of being in an auto body shop working on a car while the creature is being torn apart to die… or is it? Impressive practical effects with significant blood and gore, exceptional editing and a respectable production design highlight this film that gives a wink to the military and politics, something that you don’t see too often in short films and if done this way, I wish they would do more.

A SPLINTER OF THE MIND’S EYE, written and directed by Steven Payne, is a tale regarding using secrets to make the one’s we love happy and how that can go horrifically wrong. When a guy finds the perfect girl, all he wants to do is make her happy. As his love struggles with the loss of her mother, she confides to him the absent memory of her father’s face who left when she was a child and what that loss has meant to her. In an attempt to help, our guy pulls an elaborate ruse involving buying a video camera, hiring an actor to pretend to be the girlfriend’s father, recording a farewell message on a VHS tape and placing the tape in Mom’s box of memories and “discovers” it for his girlfriend to watch and have closure. The results… are not what he intended or hoped for. While I had issues with a few things regarding the film, the surprise ending more than made up for it. The moral of the story; secrets can lead to revelations regarding other secrets that you may not want to be revealed.

Until next time ghosts and ghouls!
Scaring, caring and sharing,

Anna Faris & Regina Hall Promise ‘Scary Movie’ Will “Offend Everyone;” New Images Revealed

The Wayans are out to cancel the Cancel Culture with Scary Movie, and the cast assures it will do just that.

“They sort of have an across-the-board style,” Anna Faris tells EW. “It’s always been a part of the Wayans Brothers, their electricity. ‘Can we offend you? Will you still love us? Come on, you still love us, don’t you?'”

Regina Hall concurs, promising the “boundary-pushing” sixth installment in the horror parody franchise will “offend everyone.”

EW has shared a batch of behind-the-scenes images from Scary Movie, which hits theaters June 5 via Paramount.

Faris and Hall are joined by fellow franchise favorites Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Dave Sheridan, Lochlyn Munro, Cheri Oteri, Chris Elliott, and Jon Abrahams in the legacy sequel.

The ensemble includes Damon Wayans Jr., Gregg Wayans, Kim Wayans, Benny Zielke, Cameron Scott Roberts, Heidi Gardner, Olivia Rose Keegan, Ruby Snowber, Savannah Lee Nassif, Sydney Park, Kenan Thompson, and Felissa Rose.

Michael Tiddes (A Haunted House) directs from a script by Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, original Scary Movie director Keenen Ivory Wayans, Craig Wayans (Scary Movie 2), and Rick Alvarez (A Haunted House).

The film will slash through reboots, remakes, requels, prequels, sequels, spin-offs, elevated horror, origin stories, anything with the word legacy in it, and everyfinal chapterthat absolutely isn’t final.

Scary Movie launched in 2000, followed by Scary Movie 2 in 2001. The Wayans’ involvement ended there, but the series continued with 2003’s Scary Movie 3, 2006’s Scary Movie 4, and 2013’s Scary Movie 5.
