WORLD OF DEATH Ep. 140 – After The Slasher / The Figure

Published

on

Today’s episode, watchers, brings you not one but two examples of how everything is not exactly how it seems. In the shadows lurk the horrors nightmares are made of.

In AFTER THE SLASHER, you have a young woman covered in blood splatter in an interrogation room, two frustrated cops and an unbelievable story. Writer, director and editor, William Capps, taking a note from SCREAM, uses the common stereotypes from classic horror films; final girl is a virgin, deadly urban legend, sex=death, an abandoned house where a terrible crime occurred, a party on the anniversary of the terrible crime and then gives it a twist. While the final girl answers the detectives questions and details the horrible circumstances that brought her to that interrogation room, the female detective angrily yells at our heroine, “Your story doesn’t add up! It sounds like a bad slasher flick.” In response, the male detective utters,” I don’t know? If a movie were made about her story I’d kinda like to see it, could make a decent horror flick.” I would most DEFINITELY agree with the male detective. With excellent direction, editing, story and fantastic use of split screen in a scene, this is a little over 4 minute film that makes me want to watch a ninety minute plus feature, yesterday. Capps is a filmmaker whose work I will look forward to seeing in the future and makes an impact in a short amount of time.

In THE FIGURE, a woman out for a smoke has caught the attention of a dark figure that follows her home. Directors, producers, writers, Harry Bartholomew and Wesley Skelly drop the viewer into the world of a couple and their tumultuous life with an unwelcome guest that wants to make it a brief threesome. Rich and Jen are a duo with a LOT of problems. For the entirety of the short Rich is seen sitting on the couch drinking beers while Jen shows all the action as she does everything including cleaning up the dinner that was ruined by Rich’s incompetence, ordering a pizza, cutting the pizza up and plating it, serving the pizza to Rich, taking a shower, attempting to seduce Rich and taking a stand on their relationship. Any person that interacts with the couple is doomed and the audience sees ‘the figure’ take another life. As one might imagine, the unhappy couple won’t have to worry about staying unhappy for much longer in this just shy of 15 minute short. One of the things that struck me and stuck with me most was the score by Kevin Macleod, Plissken 31 and Rusty Apper. The music is reminiscent of what one may hear in a nightmare. Eerie, haunting and macabre with its looming simplicity, it adds a level of intensity from the opening credits to the very end.

Don’t smoke, watch out for what’s in the shadows and be careful of tales that are too bizarre to be true kids and you may make it to another day. Enjoy the watch, fiends!

Anna Faris & Regina Hall Promise ‘Scary Movie’ Will “Offend Everyone;” New Images Revealed

The Wayans are out to cancel the Cancel Culture with Scary Movie, and the cast assures it will do just that.

“They sort of have an across-the-board style,” Anna Faris tells EW. “It’s always been a part of the Wayans Brothers, their electricity. ‘Can we offend you? Will you still love us? Come on, you still love us, don’t you?'”

Regina Hall concurs, promising the “boundary-pushing” sixth installment in the horror parody franchise will “offend everyone.”

EW has shared a batch of behind-the-scenes images from Scary Movie, which hits theaters June 5 via Paramount.

Faris and Hall are joined by fellow franchise favorites Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Dave Sheridan, Lochlyn Munro, Cheri Oteri, Chris Elliott, and Jon Abrahams in the legacy sequel.

The ensemble includes Damon Wayans Jr., Gregg Wayans, Kim Wayans, Benny Zielke, Cameron Scott Roberts, Heidi Gardner, Olivia Rose Keegan, Ruby Snowber, Savannah Lee Nassif, Sydney Park, Kenan Thompson, and Felissa Rose.

Michael Tiddes (A Haunted House) directs from a script by Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, original Scary Movie director Keenen Ivory Wayans, Craig Wayans (Scary Movie 2), and Rick Alvarez (A Haunted House).

The film will slash through reboots, remakes, requels, prequels, sequels, spin-offs, elevated horror, origin stories, anything with the word legacy in it, and everyfinal chapterthat absolutely isn’t final.

Scary Movie launched in 2000, followed by Scary Movie 2 in 2001. The Wayans’ involvement ended there, but the series continued with 2003’s Scary Movie 3, 2006’s Scary Movie 4, and 2013’s Scary Movie 5.
