WORLD OF DEATH Ep. 174 – Ink

Published

on

On this week’s installment of World of Death, Ashlea Wessel of El Puchador Productions brings us an ink-filled bathtub of terror in her short film rightly-titled Ink.

Right from the start of this twisted short the tone is extremely apparent. With a dimly lit bathroom and mysterious shadows dancing in the hallway, Ryan Knight’s superb cinematography really helps to establish the dark and foreboding atmosphere that is to come. In addition, the set where the film takes place is wonderfully eerie as it displays an unkept and freakish bathroom with only a small glint of light emitting from behind two windows. The set immediately conveys isolation, and when the lead character enters the room we quickly feel her loneliness and pain.

For a character with no dialogue, Mishka Balilty sure knows how to convey emotion. Her angsty and rebellious personality is apparent the second she appears on screen. Witnessing her descent into insanity is nothing but a pleasure to watch and the way she motivates the story is simply chilling. Another aspect of this short that deserves praise is that of Adrian Ellis’s score. The low, yet frightening beats that Ellis conjures help to keep the viewer on edge as the shocking conclusion approaches.

Considering that images flash by quickly and the haunting lore of the tale is only hinted at, I highly recommend rewatching certain elements of this short and picking up on the subtle hints throughout (It might send you down a rabbit hole of Wikipedia investigations). The finale of this story is downright freakish and the accompanying camera shots are sure to give you nightmares.

What are you waiting for? Take a dive into a nice warm bath and enjoy Ashlea Wessel’s Ink!

Anna Faris & Regina Hall Promise ‘Scary Movie’ Will “Offend Everyone;” New Images Revealed

Published

The Wayans are out to cancel the Cancel Culture with Scary Movie, and the cast assures it will do just that.

“They sort of have an across-the-board style,” Anna Faris tells EW. “It’s always been a part of the Wayans Brothers, their electricity. ‘Can we offend you? Will you still love us? Come on, you still love us, don’t you?'”

Regina Hall concurs, promising the “boundary-pushing” sixth installment in the horror parody franchise will “offend everyone.”

EW has shared a batch of behind-the-scenes images from Scary Movie, which hits theaters June 5 via Paramount.

Faris and Hall are joined by fellow franchise favorites Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Dave Sheridan, Lochlyn Munro, Cheri Oteri, Chris Elliott, and Jon Abrahams in the legacy sequel.

The ensemble includes Damon Wayans Jr., Gregg Wayans, Kim Wayans, Benny Zielke, Cameron Scott Roberts, Heidi Gardner, Olivia Rose Keegan, Ruby Snowber, Savannah Lee Nassif, Sydney Park, Kenan Thompson, and Felissa Rose.

Michael Tiddes (A Haunted House) directs from a script by Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, original Scary Movie director Keenen Ivory Wayans, Craig Wayans (Scary Movie 2), and Rick Alvarez (A Haunted House).

The film will slash through reboots, remakes, requels, prequels, sequels, spin-offs, elevated horror, origin stories, anything with the word legacy in it, and everyfinal chapterthat absolutely isn’t final.

Scary Movie launched in 2000, followed by Scary Movie 2 in 2001. The Wayans’ involvement ended there, but the series continued with 2003’s Scary Movie 3, 2006’s Scary Movie 4, and 2013’s Scary Movie 5.
