What’s better than one terrifying short film? TWO!
This weeks World of Death is jam packed with two deliciously evil short films that will surely give you your horror fix.
To start off director Michael Crum brings us face to face with the Boogeyman himself. “HUSH HUSH” tells the story of two girls who are forced to abide to the Boogeyman’s orders in grotesque and painful ways.
The highlights of this short include the chilling retro soundtrack on repeat, the gore special effects, and the way Mr. Boogey is portrayed.
The creature is constantly seen as a reflection behind his two victims, always showcasing his presence and intimidation towards the two girls. I absolutely love this touch.
The film certainly does not shy away from gore, as limbs and parts of the body are sliced and/or cut off at various moments. You see it happen too. Like all of it. Its gross, but awesome at the same time.
Alright onto the next:
Beautiful water. Hundreds of boats. Glistening rays of sun. Peaceful ducks floating around.
How could this scene possibly become demented and twisted?
By adding an extremely deranged fisherman to the mix that is.
Jersey Devil Productions brings us the second short film of this week’s World of Death entitled “Little Fish”.
What starts off as a peaceful day out on the lake turns to Hell when a maniacal fisherman sets his sights on a teenage girl. The journey that ensues is full of tons of gore and high-stakes moments.
The film is at its best with its portrayal of the Fisherman. Something so casual yet so disturbing about this man makes him completely unnerving. The way he nervously smiles and peers out from his eyes. Complete nightmare fuel coming from an ordinary looking person. This man certainly does not need a hockey mask.
The way the film mashes beautiful sunlit cinematography with disturbing imagery is a terrifying contrast. The film also often refuses to cut away fro graphic scenes, forcing you to sit and watch as the blade gets closer and closer…
Overall, this week’s World of Death is heavier on the graphic side, yet is handled with prime horror filmmaker excellence and will surely appease the most hardcore fans of the genre.
Enjoy foolish mortals!
