[World of Death] Children Face Evil in “Drip”, “Your Filthy Heart” and “Canine”
Parents – and pet parents – beware, this weeks installment of World of Death features not one but three ghoulish tales that put children face-to-face with unspeakable evil…
Director Brian Lipko grants us some wonderful bite-sized horror with his roughly 2-minute long short film “DRIP”. This film follows a terrified child as he struggles to make it down the hallway to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. Jack Nitz’s cinematography creates a foreboding and menacing atmosphere within the hallway that leads to the bathroom. The dim moonlight illuminates a door all the way at the end of the hall, with a flood of darkness hovering in between. The only relief in the short is the child’s small bedside lamp that provides just enough light to reassure the audience that everything will be alright…or will it?
Next up we have director Evan Dickson’s “Your Filthy Heart.” Fans of Bloody Disgusting may remember a recent article that confirmed that this short film is getting a feature adaptation! “Your Filthy Heart” stars Alex Essoe (Starry Eyes) and features an appearance from the director of Netflix’s smash hit The Ritual, David Bruckner! The story revolves around a young woman who receives a mysterious package while babysitting her niece. What ensues next is a masterfully shot and absolutely horrifying sequence of events that leaves almost everyone covered in crimson red liquid. The makeup FX work in this short is particularly menacing and will surely leave you sleeping with the lights on.
To finish off our June Triple Feature is Sean Richard Budde’s “Canine.” Ira Amyx puts on a devilish performance as Earl. The film begins with Earl desperately searching for his lost dog, which is something that many people can fearfully relate to. This immediately pushes the audience to join the side of Amyx’s character, which is a devilish decision considering how the short plays out. The camera department nails the cinematography; the film is mostly composed of handheld shots but they all have satisfactory focus and stabilization. The camera work and acting add a very professional feel to the overall project. And if you are worried: no animals were harmed in the film. Although, I can’t say the same about innocent people.
Hope you enjoyed June’s installment of World of Death! Keep your kids close and your dogs closer folks.

‘Mockbuster’ Exclusive Clip Reveals the Chaos of Making a Dinosaur Movie For The Asylum
Out today in select theaters and on digital platforms is heartfelt and playful documentary Mockbuster, which sees a director cold call a studio and ask to helm a lost-world dinosaur epic.
Inexplicably, they say yes.
Our exclusive clip below highlights both the comedic nature of this bizarre scenario as well as the pressures of shooting dino feature The Land That Time Forgot in a mere six days, with no real feature experience.
A dino attack scene causes friction on set in this scene.
In the documentary, “A struggling filmmaker’s opportunity collides with chaos and compromise when Sharknado’s notorious studio, The Asylum, invites him to direct a ‘mockbuster.’ With six days, a micro budget, and mounting pressure, Mockbuster is a comedic, behind-the-scenes documentary exploring the balance between low-budget filmmaking and creative ambition.”
More than just an inside look at filmmaking via low-budget film studio The Asylum, it doubles as one man’s pursuit of his dreams to charming, humorous effect.
“Mockbuster is a documentary about my own journey, but it’s also a love letter to one of the last grindhouses still functioning in Hollywood. We get to meet the characters and creators of some of the most infamous (and most hated) B-movies of the last few decades. People who make movies purely for profit – no pretension, no artistry, just monsters, C-listers, and chaos. A film that both genre fans and cinephiles can enjoy. But Mockbuster isn’t just about filmmaking, it’s about losing sight of your dreams, and reclaiming them in your own twisted way,” Director Anthony Frith said in a statement.
From Executive Producer and famed documentarian David Farrier, Mockbuster opens in select theaters and on digital platforms beginning July 10.
