Gay Streaming Service Dekkoo Develops ‘The Latent Image’ This Halloween

The Latent Image

“Write what you know…fear what you don’t.”

Just a few weeks ago we announced that Michael Varrati‘s short film A Halloween Trick would be making its premiere on Dekkoo, a streaming service for gay men, on October 30th. It seems that the platform is planning a bit of a short film release extravaganza, as we’ve just received word that Alexander Birrell‘s (SuspicionsHorror Time) short film The Latent Image will be premiering on the service that same day as well.

In The Latent Image, a young writer (Joshua Tonks, the Olivier-nominated production of The Sound Of Music, Spring Awakening) in a secluded cabin is visited by an alluring stranger (Jay Clift, The CW’s Riverdale, Legends of Tomorrow) who may or may not be a work of dangerous fiction.

“We set out to create a suspenseful tale with plenty of twists and turns,” Birrell said. “There’s a lot of horror genre love in this film and fans of Hitchcock, De Palma and Argento will hopefully find plenty to enjoy. We wanted to put a different spin on classic cat-and-mouse suspense and say something about the attraction to fear and fear of attraction that we can all relate to as horror fans”.

The Latent Image features an original score from Alex Gregson (I Am Not The Devil, May I Come In?), sound design by Sam Auguste (Red Devil, The Desolate One) and visual effects from David Edwards, the lead compositor for Method Studios (It: Chapter Two, Terminator: Dark Fate).

While the version of The Latent Image premiering on Dekkoo is a short film, Birrell is planning on turning it into a feature-length film, with pre-production set to begin in the Spring of 2020. Birrell will once again take the lead as director alongside producers Michael Varrati (A Halloween Trick, The Office is Mine), Brandon Kirby (I’m Fine, Is This A Date) and actor Ben Baur (Hunting SeasonThe Office is Mine, A Halloween Trick).

The Latent Image is set to debut this October 30th on Dekkoo, but be on the lookout for news on the feature film next year!
