Another interesting bit came out of our lengthy round table interview with Sam Raimi, Robert Tapert and Bruce Campbell regarding their forthcoming Starz series, “Ash vs Evil Dead”.
When asked about the long-gestured sequel to the Fede Alvarez-directed Evil Dead (2013), a remake to Raimi’s 1981 The Evil Dead, Raimi expressed his love for the movie and his desire to one day return to that story.
“I love the Evil Dead remake. I love that movie,” expressed Raimi. “I hope there will be a sequel. We wanted to make [it], after we had made the [first] movie, [but] fans also seemed to want to see Bruce again.
“This is our time, we have to satisfy the crowd [and] now is a good time. TV seems like interesting format,” Raimi adds making it sound as if these two worlds could one day collide. “We chose to make Bruce’s story right now. I hope to get Fede back to continue the new Evil Dead series once we re-establish Bruce’s story.”
And while the trio were cryptic, they were also extremely candid about their inability to expand, but were as open as they could be. From the sounds of it, “Ash Vs Evil Dead” opened pandora’s box as the Evil Dead cellar door will never close, ever.
“It’s a possiblity no matter what happens,” Campbell exclaims when asked if we’ll ever see Ash back on the big screen. “We always want to keep that ability in the back of our minds to tell a story on the big ol’ screen.”
