What Are Some of the Scariest Horror Animals?

Alligator

I’m currently in the process of getting a puppy, so animals have been on my mind a lot as of late. And while the title of this post may suggest otherwise, I really am a huge fan of most animals. Put me near dogs or cats and I’ll happily pet them. Got a problem moving a scorpion from one tank to another, I’m your guy. Hell, I almost got into a cage in the water to “swim” with great white sharks when I was in South Africa!

But I can’t deny that when it comes down to natural instinct, there are some animals that are killers, no matter how much we want to believe otherwise. We’ve seen cats go crazy in Tales From the Darkside and dogs lose it in Cujo, but those don’t worry me all that much. It’s animals that I KNOW can’t ever really be domesticated that worry me far more.

Now, I know that Trace picked 10 of his earlier this year but I want to share a few of mine and, more importantly, hear your picks! So check out the list below and let me know your thoughts!

Spiders – Eight Legged Freaks

I think most of you know by now that I absolutely hate spiders. And while I know that most spiders are more scared of us than we are of them, that logic simply can’t pierce my brain. I see a spider and I freak the fuck out, either killing it immediately or seriously considering the penalties for arson.

Hell, the trailer below is enough to send shivers up and down my spine.

Alligators – Alligator

If you haven’t seen the below movie, you’re missing out. It’s a surprisingly solid and entertaining.

But I digress. Alligators are scary as shit. The amount of force their jaws can snap shut with is downright terrifying and the way they kill their prey is chillingly effective (WARING: Do NOT click that link if you hate watching animals get eaten. That’s some real life Nat Geo shit that I’ve hyperlinked).

Sharks – Jaws

Just like with spiders and how most of them are not that violent, I can’t help but be scared of sharks. Perhaps it’s the fact that their mouth looks like something out of a Lovecraft-ian nightmare. Perhaps it’s the fact that when they attack, it’s unbelievably quick and absolutely devastating. Perhaps it’s the fact that most shark attacks happen in shallow water.

Whatever the case, these animals, which I know are majestic and are actually quite beautiful in their own way, are brutally efficient killers.

Cockroaches – Creepshow

So, these don’t scare me so much as they thoroughly disgust me. Cockroaches just look gross and disgusting and seeing that one scene in Creepshow was enough to give me the heebie-jeebies for, well…forever!
