Matilda Lutz Faces a Grisly Spider Surprise in New ‘Crawlers’ Clip

Crawlers spider clip

Matilda Lutz (Revenge) discovers a spider hiding in a rather unusual spot in IGN‘s new clip from Crawlers ahead of its release in theaters this Friday, and the ocular trauma is likely to make you squirm.

Previously known as Arachnid, the horror film will be released in theaters nationwide on October 16 via Roadside Attractions and Saban Films.

In Crawlers, “a catastrophic infestation of venomous and deadly spiders sends an apartment building into lockdown. Trapped inside by a police-mandated quarantine, building manager Serena (Lutz) and her residents battle to survive as the creatures multiply by the second. Armed with her intimate knowledge of the complex, Serena may be the only one who can keep them alive—if she can confront her deepest fear.”

Crawlers is rated R for “violent content/bloody images, language and brief sexual material.” The clip below, which shows a spider bursting from a corpse’s eye, certainly underscores the film’s rating.

Angel Gómez Hernández (Don’t Listen) directs from a script by Jayson Rothwell (Polar, Silent Night).

Crawlers marks the first feature from Badlands, the new collaboration between Basil Iwanyk & Erica Lee’s Thunder Road (John Wick, Sicario) and longtime studio executive Scott Strauss (Resident Evil, Underworld). Strauss, Iwanyk, and Lee produce alongside Peter Welter Soler (Terminator Dark Fate), Jayson Rothwell, Alexandra Milchan (“The Terror”), and Josh Weinstock. Executive producers include Andrew Schwartzberg, Jon Shiffman, and Diarmaid McGrath.

“Crawlers is a uniquely visceral horror experience that gets under your skin in the best way possible. It’s a true, unapologetic genre film that delivers the kind of squirm-in-your-seat, racing-heart moments that horror fans live for,” said Saban co-presidents Shanan Becker and Jonathan Saba. “It masterfully blends edge-of-your-seat thrills with the high-octane fun we’ve come to expect from the producers of John Wick.”

“It is said we are never more than three feet from a spider,” added Strauss. “Now they’re coming to a theater near you! The filmmaking team is over the moon to partner with Roadside and Saban on the theatrical release of Crawlers.”
