WORLD OF DEATH Ep. 46 – Web of Deceit / Tomato

Published

on

Greetings, WOD Watchers!
It’s time to kick off another installment of World of Death.  I’m not even sure how to tie these two pieces into the relevance of the week.  I just got done watching them for the first time and boy is my penis confused.  The best way to describe this episode’s theme is if HBO’s Real Sex and  Tales From The Crypt had some deranged mind-fuck of a lovechild.  If you were feeling a bit lonely tonight and, while surfing the immense database of pornographic material floating around on the net you couldn’t find anything to strike your fancy, give these a watch.  Maybe you’ll find out you’re even more of a fucking freak than you originally thought?
First up, we have a sexy little short from director Michael Kyne, called Web of Deceit.  This one takes us into the home of struggling lovers.  The lady of the relationship is trying to connect with her male companion and solve their money issues, but he just won’t give her the time of day.  We find out he has a bit of an expensive hobby that satisfies his unfulfilled desires.  It’s an ending we all see coming for this guy, but it looks great unfolding.  The atmosphere of the film is very looming and fits in well with the theme.  The set designs are simple, but striking and complement the story well.  You will be smothered in anticipation.
The next short film in the episode is called Tomato.  This one comes all the way from Uruguay by directors Nicolás Botana and Gonzalo Torrens.  How do I even begin to explain this one?  OK I got it.  Veggie Tales meets I Spit on Your Grave.  Yeah…this is the nightmare that every vegan wakes up to in the middle of the night in a cold sweat and warm puddle of piss.  The story is centered around one man just going through his morning routine and trying to enjoy his breakfast by slicing up a tomato.  He then has an unexpected visitor that no one will see coming.  The camerawork is brilliant and features some shots with real depth.  The simple sound design accents exactly what is needed to get this absurd story across.  The way that some of the shots have the action happening off screen makes you feel like you stumbled across something you shouldn’t be watching, but yet you really want to see how it ends.  And this one ends with quite a ludicrous…um…well…climax.
Enjoy the episode and if you get caught with your pants down during this one, please seek help.

Anna Faris & Regina Hall Promise ‘Scary Movie’ Will “Offend Everyone;” New Images Revealed

The Wayans are out to cancel the Cancel Culture with Scary Movie, and the cast assures it will do just that.

“They sort of have an across-the-board style,” Anna Faris tells EW. “It’s always been a part of the Wayans Brothers, their electricity. ‘Can we offend you? Will you still love us? Come on, you still love us, don’t you?'”

Regina Hall concurs, promising the “boundary-pushing” sixth installment in the horror parody franchise will “offend everyone.”

EW has shared a batch of behind-the-scenes images from Scary Movie, which hits theaters June 5 via Paramount.

Faris and Hall are joined by fellow franchise favorites Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Dave Sheridan, Lochlyn Munro, Cheri Oteri, Chris Elliott, and Jon Abrahams in the legacy sequel.

The ensemble includes Damon Wayans Jr., Gregg Wayans, Kim Wayans, Benny Zielke, Cameron Scott Roberts, Heidi Gardner, Olivia Rose Keegan, Ruby Snowber, Savannah Lee Nassif, Sydney Park, Kenan Thompson, and Felissa Rose.

Michael Tiddes (A Haunted House) directs from a script by Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, original Scary Movie director Keenen Ivory Wayans, Craig Wayans (Scary Movie 2), and Rick Alvarez (A Haunted House).

The film will slash through reboots, remakes, requels, prequels, sequels, spin-offs, elevated horror, origin stories, anything with the word legacy in it, and everyfinal chapterthat absolutely isn’t final.

Scary Movie launched in 2000, followed by Scary Movie 2 in 2001. The Wayans’ involvement ended there, but the series continued with 2003’s Scary Movie 3, 2006’s Scary Movie 4, and 2013’s Scary Movie 5.
