‘Kong: Skull Island’ Clip Talks Monarch and M.U.T.O., Tying in ‘Godzilla’!

Legendary Pictures isn’t fucking around. King Kong and Godzilla are going to beat the living crap out of each other in 2020.

Yahoo! landed the first clip from Kong: Skull Island, in theaters March 10, 2017, which foreshadows the ultimate battle between the two giant monsters. The footage shows Samuel L. Jackson‘s Lt. Col. Packard pulling a gun on John Goodman‘s character, Bill Randa. The discussion leads to a familiar place…Monarch and M.U.T.O.! This isn’t the first time that they’ve teased connective tissue, dropping an easter egg into this TV spot.

I think my favorite conspiracy theory is that, in anther universe, Goodman’s character is the same as the one in 10 Cloverfield Lane. Ah, what a dream that would be!

Scripted by Max Borenstein, John Gatins, Dan Gilroy, and Derek Connolly, and directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, the film also stars Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, John C. Reilly, Tian Jing, Corey Hawkins, Jason Mitchell, John Ortiz, Thomas Mann, Shea Whigham, Toby Kebbell, and Eugene Cordero.

In the film: A diverse team of explorers is brought together to venture deep into an uncharted island in the Pacific – as beautiful as it is treacherous – unaware that they’re crossing into the domain of the mythic Kong.

Skull Island opens in theaters on March 10th, 2017, followed by Godzilla 2, which is being directed by Michael Dougherty, on March 22, 2019, and Godzilla vs. Kong on May 29, 2020.

Sleepy Hollow movie

Paramount is heading to Sleepy Hollow with a brand new feature film take on the classic Headless Horseman tale, with Lindsey Anderson Beer (Pet Sematary: Bloodlines) announced to direct the movie back in 2022. But is that project still happening, now two years later?

The Hollywood Reporter lets us know this afternoon that Paramount Pictures has renewed its first-look deal with Lindsey Anderson Beer, and one of the projects on the upcoming slate is the aforementioned Sleepy Hollow movie that was originally announced two years ago.

THR details, “Additional projects on the development slate include… Sleepy Hollow with Anderson Beer attached to write, direct, and produce alongside Todd Garner of Broken Road.”

You can learn more about the slate over on The Hollywood Reporter. It also includes a supernatural thriller titled Here Comes the Dark from the writers of Don’t Worry Darling.

The origin of all things Sleepy Hollow is of course Washington Irving’s story “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” which was first published in 1819. Tim Burton adapted the tale for the big screen in 1999, that film starring Johnny Depp as main character Ichabod Crane.

More recently, the FOX series “Sleepy Hollow” was also based on Washington Irving’s tale of Crane and the Headless Horseman. The series lasted four seasons, cancelled in 2017.
