‘Mules’ Smuggle Drugs into New Thriller
ScreenDaily shared the first still for Mules, the Nordic thriller written and directed by Börkur Sigthorsson (Trapped TV series) and produced by Baltasar Kormakur (Everest).
Mules follows two antagonistic brothers whose lives spiral out of control after they smuggle drugs into their native Iceland using a young Polish girl as their mule.
The first image features rising Polish actress Anna Próchniak (The Innocents) who plays the drugs mule. The film also stars Gisli Örn Garðarsson (The Oath), Baltasar Breki Samper (Trapped), and Danish actress Marijana Jankovic (Everything Will be Fine, Norskov TV series).
“Sharp-suited Erik represents the aspirational face of modern Iceland. Atli, a petty criminal just released from prison, is stuck in a downward spiral.
The distance between these two very different brothers vanishes when the duo teams up to smuggle cocaine into Iceland, inside plastic pellets swallowed by a young Polish mule, Sofia.
But things go wrong when rule-breaking cop Lena starts closing in on them and Sofia falls sick. With the drugs yet to reach their destination and a rival gang demanding a slice of the action, time is a luxury that the brothers can’t afford.
Charismatic anti-hero Erik’s ability to stay one step ahead is tested to the limit – how many lives is he willing to sacrifice to sustain his own?”
Mules is produced by Kormákur and Agnes Johansen (Trapped) and include crew such as Editor Elísabet Ronaldsdóttir (John Wick) and Bergsteinn Bjorgulfsson (Of Horses And Men).
The film, which finished shooting in April is currently in post-production. WestEnd will continue handling world sales in Cannes where they will be showing buyers a first promo of the film.

‘A Man in the Woods With an Axe’ – First Look at ’80s Throwback Slasher [Exclusive]
We have an exclusive first look at A Man in the Woods With an Axe, a blood-soaked, genre-twisting homage to 1980s slasher films.
Spanning four decades, A Man in the Woods With an Axe begins in the summer of 1987 before pushing into the modern era, weaving together timelines and perspectives in a way that builds both dread and intrigue.
Drawing inspiration from genre standouts like Tucker and Dale vs. Evil, Hatchet, and The Cabin in the Woods, the film blends visceral horror with moments of dark humor, creating a uniquely balanced experience that honors tradition while carving its own identity.
Writer-director Dillon Brown (Primal Darkness) aims to deliver everything fans crave from a slasher while boldly subverting expectations with a mid-film twist that redefines the story.
“This is an unapologetic love letter to the films that made me fall in love with horror,” Brown tells Bloody Disgusting. “But I didn’t just want to recreate that feeling; I wanted to challenge it. About halfway through, the film takes a turn that completely changes how you view not only this story, but the genre itself.”
Brown describes the vintage-inspired production as “far and away the bloodiest film I’ve ever made,” with practical effects helmed by Cody Ruch (The Mill, Pig Hill), an instructor at Tom Savini’s Special Make-Up Effects Program.
From Horror Dadz Productions, A Man in the Woods With an Axe is currently in production and targeting an early 2027 release.
