Is Darren Aronofsky’s ‘mother!’ a Vampire Movie?

Earlier this week I was writing about a new television spot for Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky’s upcoming thriller mother! when I noticed something unusual.

The film follows a couple’s (Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem) relationship that is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence. The new footage made something abundantly clear to me: instead of people breaking in, Aronofsky appears to put a new spin on the home invasion subgenre by having the guests be invited into their house.  Why is this important? As I was finishing my thought I realized something, the mother! footage plays like a slasher mixed with an old-school vampire film. I even called out that it’s possible I just stumbled onto the big secret.

We try our best to avoid speculating, which is why I buried this thought in that article. Only, I now have (a little) fuel for that fire. Here’s a brand new poster for mother! that’s hiding a secret image in plain sight. Look closely and right in the dead center is a bunch of bodies and hands gripping together to for an image of a bat! There are some other subtle indications such as the previously released poster with Lawrence shedding her skin to the hidden frog symbolizing rebirth.

We’ll let them in on September 15, 2017, just to find out.
