Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence star in Martin Scorsese’s gothic horror movie What Happens at Night, and Variety reports that pop star Charli xcx will join in a cameo role.
Described as a Gothic psychological horror film, What Happens at Night is a dream-like story of a married American couple who travel to a small, snowy European town to adopt a baby. They check into a largely deserted hotel where they encounter an enigmatic cast of characters including a flamboyant chanteuse, a depraved businessman and a charismatic faith healer. Nothing is quite as it seems.
As the couple struggles to claim their baby, the less they seem to know about themselves and the life they’ve built together.
Martin Scorsese is directing from a script by Patrick Marber (Closer, Notes on a Scandal), based on Peter Cameron‘s 2020 horror mystery novel.
While DiCaprio and Lawrence will play the central couple, Charli xcx’s cameo role is currently under wraps. Patricia Clarkson (Shutter Island), Mads Mikkelsen (Dust Bunny, “Hannibal”), Jared Harris (“Chernobyl”), and Welker White (Goodfellas) also star.
Charli xcx is a huge, self-proclaimed horror fan who recently appeared in the Faces of Death reboot. She’s also producing and starring in an upcoming horror movie from Takashi Miike, and recently collaborated with body horror master David Cronenberg on a track from her new album.
Charli is currently wrapping up her tour for the record in the U.S., with the final show of the leg in Las Vegas on Friday before she heads to Europe in February.
What Happens at Night marks Scorsese and DiCaprio’s seventh feature collaboration, following Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island, The Wolf of Wall Street, and Killers of the Flower Moon.
