Update on Quentin Tarantino’s Charles Manson Movie; Who Will Save It?
Back in July, we learned that Quentin Tarantino was writing a script for a movie based on the infamous Manson family murders, which was set to be his ninth film as director. At the time, frequent Tarantino producers Harvey and Bob Weinstein were attached; for obvious reasons, things have since changed on that front.
In an update from Deadline today, we’ve learned that Tarantino finished the script over the summer, and is currently seeking a new home for the project. The site notes that the script, which is titled #9 at this time (a reference to it being Tarantino’s ninth film), is currently being read by nearly all the major studios.
It’s being described as a drama set in late ’60s-early ’70s Los Angeles, and it’s been compared to Pulp Fiction. As we were told earlier this year, “Script details are fuzzy but one of the story’s centers is on Sharon Tate, the actress and wife of director Roman Polanski who was murdered by Manson and his followers in 1969.”
Margot Robbie has reportedly been contacted to play Sharon Tate, and Tarantino has written roles potentially for actors such as Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio and Samuel L. Jackson. At this time, however, no official casting decisions have been made.
The hope is that a deal will be made within the month, and that production can begin sometime next year ahead of a projected 2019 release date.

Matilda Firth Joins the Cast of Director Leigh Whannell’s ‘Wolf Man’ Movie
Filming is underway on The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man for Universal and Blumhouse, which will be howling its way into theaters on January 17, 2025.
Deadline reports that Matilda Firth (Disenchanted) is the latest actor to sign on, joining Christopher Abbott (Poor Things), Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel), and Sam Jaeger.
The project will mark Whannell’s second monster movie and fourth directing collaboration with Blumhouse Productions (The Invisible Man, Upgrade, Insidious: Chapter 3).
Wolf Man stars Christopher Abbott as a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.
Writers include Whannell & Corbett Tuck as well as Lauren Schuker Blum & Rebecca Angelo.
Jason Blum is producing the film. Ryan Gosling, Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira, Mel Turner and Whannell are executive producers. Wolf Man is a Blumhouse and Motel Movies production.
In the wake of the failed Dark Universe, Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man has been the only real success story for the Universal Monsters brand, which has been struggling with recent box office flops including the comedic Renfield and period horror movie The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Giving him the keys to the castle once more seems like a wise idea, to say the least.
