For obvious reasons, Max Landis will not be writing the script for Netflix’s sequel to Bright, which was hugely successful for the streaming service despite being critically panned. So who’s writing, you ask? Via THR, Evan Spiliotopoulos has landed the gig.
Spiliotopoulos’ most recent writing credits include Hercules (2014), The Huntsman: Winter’s War and Beauty and the Beast (2017).
The site notes that “Will Smith and Joel Edgerton are expected to return as mismatched colleagues, a veteran cop and his partner, an Orc.”
David Ayer (Suicide Squad) is returning to direct.
Personally speaking, I had a whole lot of fun with Bright, which merely teases a fantasy-meets-reality universe that the sequel will hopefully be delving much further into. The film offers passing glimpses of several creatures – including fairies, centaurs and a big ass dragon – that are mostly kept in the background, so there’s needless to say lots of room for expansion into a full-on franchise. As long as people keep watching, right?
