During a Twitter Q&A session last night, Blumhouse head Jason Blum updated on a couple of horror sequels that are on the way. First up, Happy Death Day 2 has already been filmed!
Answering a fan’s question, Blum noted that “Some of us saw [Happy Death Day 2] and it’s good.”
Christopher Landon returned to direct the film, again starring Jessica Rothe as Tree Gelbman. Rothe teased the storyline to Collider earlier this year, “The sequel, the way [Landon] described it to me, elevates the movie from being a horror movie – and I wouldn’t even say it’s just a horror movie because it’s a horror, comedy, rom-com drama – into a Back to the Future type of genre film where the sequel joins us right from where we left off, it explains a lot of things in the first one that didn’t get explained, and it elevates everything.”
Another fan asked when The Gallows: Act II will be released, and Blum said that he believes it’s coming “within next 9 months.” That film, a sequel to the 2015 movie, begins after an aspiring actress (Ana Rue) transfers to a prestigious new school where her desires are twisted by a viral challenge capable of conjuring a malevolent spirit.
On a related note, Blum shot down potential sequels to both The Belko Experiment and Oculus, telling fans that both follow-ups are highly unlikely to ever happen.
