Michael Myers wouldn’t be half as menacing in John Carpenter‘s 1978 Halloween if he hadn’t first stopped by Nichols Hardware before going on a murder spree. After escaping from Smith’s Grove Sanitarium, Michael would break in for some rope, a knife and the now iconic “The Shape” mask. It’s a staple in the Halloween universe.
In Gallery 1988‘s latest showing “Product Placement”, artist Blain Hefner takes a stab at turning the Halloween franchise into a retro ad. The limited print is a seasonal “Halloween Sale” ad for Nichols Hardware which sells not only the Shape mask, but also a sheet ghost and aforementioned clown costumes, as well as the Witch, Skeleton, and Pumpkin masks as seen in Season of the Witch. Add a pumpkin for only 20 cents.
