A24 continues to tease the sophomore effort of Hereditary director Ari Aster, the upcoming “Scandinavian folk horror” film Midsommar. The movie centers on a pagan cult, and with the previous short animated teasers playing up that element, so does the first ever poster. The festivities begin this summer – specifically on August 9, 2019.
As many other cryptic pieces of horror before it, this one-sheet hides the “all seeing eye” within what appears to be an interpretation of “squaring the circle”, although I’m no iconography expert. What do you see?
In the film, “Pugh and Reynor will play a couple that travels to Sweden to visit their friend’s rural hometown for its fabled mid-summer festival. What begins as an idyllic retreat quickly devolves into an increasingly violent and bizarre competition at the hands of a pagan cult.”
Aster’s new film stars Jack Reynor, Will Poulter and Florence Pugh with Vilhem Blomgren, William Jackson Harper, Ellora Torchia and Archie Madekwe.
