First reported by Variety over the weekend, Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Partners has acquired Carole Stivers’ as-yet unpublished science fiction novel The Mother Code, with plans to turn the story into a feature film. The novel won’t be published until next year, and Amy Louise Johnson (“Nightflyers”) has been hired to script the adaptation.
The story is set in a world in which a biological weapon has nearly destroyed the planet.
“Scientists and government officials work to save the human race by placing unborn children in the care of artificially intelligent mother robots. But when the government decides the machines must be destroyed, one boy who was raised and nurtured by a robot must fight to save the only parent he has ever known.”
Sounds like an Amblin movie to us!
