Cinedigm Acquires ‘Madness in the Method’, Which Reteams Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith

Cinedigm has acquired North American rights to Madness in the Method, the feature directing debut of Jason Mewes, who teams to star with his Jay and Silent Bob buddy Kevin Smith in the meta-comedy, reports Variety out of Cannes.

The distributor plans an August 2 day-and-date platform release in theaters and digital. Here are some tony first-look images.

In the film, “Mewes plays a version of himself. Tired of Hollywood’s perception of him, he embarks on a quest to reinvent himself as a serious actor. Upon advice from best friend Kevin Smith, he tracks down a secretive method-acting book — with disastrous consequences.”

An earlier synopsis reveals Mewes to turn into a serial killer…

“The only way to survive in Hollywood is to toughen up. At least that’s the advice Kevin Smith, aka Silent Bob, passes on to his best friend Jason ‘Jay’ Mewes. Only Smith didn’t expect his advice to turn Jay into a psychopathic killer.

No longer content being known as Jay, the vocal half of the Jay and Silent Bob stoner duo, and Smith’s sidekick, Jay takes matters into his own hands. He hatches a plan to dethrone Smith, take over his universe and emerge from Silent Bob’s shadow. And it’s a plan that may or may not involve the murder of Danny Trejo… Can Jay pull it off or is it all just the fantastical ‘mewesings’ of an insane ex-drug addict?”

Gina Carano, Jaime Camil, Vinnie Jones, Danny Trejo, the late Stan Lee, Teri Hatcher, Brian O’Halloran and Dean Cain co-star along with Blake Harrison, Casper Van Dien, Judd Nelson and David Dastmalchian.

The pic marks the first major on-screen team-up for Mewes and Smith since 2006’s Clerks 2.
