It was originally reported two years ago that Quentin Tarantino was potentially going to direct a Star Trek movie, one that’d be more violent and expletive-filled than any other Trek project in existence. Tarantino had pitched the film to Paramount and J.J. Abrams back in 2017 and early development had begun, with a team of writers working on the script.
Tarantino’s rated “R” take on Star Trek comes up every so often; just one month ago, in fact, Tarantino had told Chris Evangelista over at Slash Film that the script had been written and the project was still a very real possibility, adding that he’d soon be devoting time to it now that he’s done with Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. And the project is once again making headlines today thanks to a similar interview Empire just conducted with Tarantino.
“It’s an R-rated movie. If I do it, it’ll be R-rated,” Tarantino assured Empire inside the pages of their latest issue.
Tarantino added, reiterating the aforementioned comments to Slash Film, “There’s a script that exists for it now. I need to weigh in on it, but I haven’t been able to do that yet.”
