One of this year’s biggest horror treats so far was last week’s trailer for Mike Flanagan’s Doctor Sleep, an adaptation of Stephen King’s sequel to The Shining that is also serving as a sequel to Stanley Kubrick’s horror masterpiece. Ewan McGregor plays an adult Danny Torrance in Flanagan’s movie, the character first played by child actor Danny Lloyd back in 1980.
What does Lloyd make of all this? Well, he’s currently a college professor in Kentucky who very rarely grants interviews, but THR managed to get his reaction to the Doctor Sleep trailer.
“I was surprised,” Lloyd told the site, reacting to the trailer that featured newly-shot recreations of some iconic moments from Kubrick’s film. “It looked really good. I was curious since there is a fine line they have to walk with Stephen King and Stanley Kubrick. It looks like they found a way to pay tribute to both. I’d like to see it right when it comes out.”
Lloyd added, “I am sure [McGregor] has done a great job with it.”
Danny Torrance returns to the Overlook Hotel on November 8, 2019.
