A24 has released a brand new trailer for Midsommar, director Ari Aster‘s now ultra-hyped follow-up to Hereditary in which a couple, on the verge of breaking up, visit their friend’s rural hometown for its fabled mid-summer festival. The new footage plays out like a promo for a retreat, only the cult’s activities range from “skin the fool” to parades and even human barbecues.
Our very own William Bibbiani attended the first ever screening in Los Angeles. In his review, he writes that “Midsommar is a gorgeous, emotionally overwhelming mixed bag,” while others have declared it a horror masterpiece likened to Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
Aster’s new film stars Jack Reynor, Will Poulter and Florence Pugh. The festivities begin on July 3.
