Christopher Landon Shoots Down Rumor About ‘Happy Death Day 3’ Being in Development

Published

on

For the sake of nipping this one in the bud before it gets too out of hand, a recent rumor that was shared by several sites this week about Happy Death Day 3 being in development is unequivocally not true, franchise director Christopher Landon has let the world know today. Blumhouse, at this time, is not moving forward with a third installment.

Landon tweeted this morning, “Since I keep reading stuff about it, I’ll say it loud: THERE IS NO HAPPY DEATH DAY 3 IN DEVELOPMENT. It’s just a rumor.”

“Unless Netflix wants to pony-up and finish this trilogy, it just ain’t happening.

Of course, this should come as no big surprise, as both Landon and Jason Blum had noted after the release of Happy Death Day 2U that a second sequel was unlikely to happen. This year’s movie grossed over $60 million on a $9 million production budget, another success story for Blumhouse but at the same time a far cry from the first film’s $125 million total.

Landon had always planned on Happy Death Day being a trilogy, and he set up the third film in the final moments of the second one. Part 3, he said, was going to be “bonkers.”

Never say never, of course, but Happy Death Day 3 is not in the works at this time.

The next installment in the Jurassic World franchise continues to build its main cast, with Deadline reporting that Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (The Lincoln Lawyer) has signed on.

He’ll join the previously announced Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) and Jonathan Bailey (Wicked) in the franchise’s next installment, arriving in Summer 2025.

Gareth Edwards (2014’s GodzillaThe Creator) will be directing the new installment, with original Jurassic Park writer David Koepp returning to write the screenplay.

Jurassic World returns to theaters on July 2, 2025. Stay tuned for more.

The new movie is expected to usher in a brand new Jurassic Era with Jurassic World cast members Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard not expected to return. Don’t expect the original trilogy’s Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern and Sam Neill, either. The new Jurassic World, from what we gather, plans to take the franchise in a new direction, with plot details under wraps.

The next Jurassic World film will be executive produced by Steven Spielberg through Amblin Entertainment. Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley will produce and David Leitch and Kelly McCormick will also produce through 87North.

Executive Vice President of Production Development Sara Scott and Creative Executive of Production Development Jacqueline Garell will oversee the project for the Studio.

This news comes in the wake of Jurassic WorldJurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Jurassic World: Dominion, a trilogy of sequels to the original classic that concluded in 2022. The last entry, Jurassic World: Dominion, brought in a billion dollars at the global box-office, all but ensuring Universal would want to continue this franchise.

The franchise will also return with “Jurassic World: Chaos Theory” later this year, an animated series from Netflix set in the world of “Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous.”
