Release Date for Darren Bousman and Chris Rock’s ‘Saw’ Reboot Moves Up Five Months!

Published

Filming is currently underway on the next Saw film, with Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II-IV) back in the director’s chair. The movie, which is from an idea by Chris Rock(!), had originally been set to bring the twisted traps back into theaters on October 23, 2020, but we’ve learned today that the film’s release date has been bumped up all the way to May 15, 2020!

This is a huge show of confidence from Lionsgate, and also no doubt a response from the studio to last week’s news that Halloween Kills will be hitting theaters on October 16, 2020.

The Saw franchise had a long tradition of releasing new installments in October, and the new movie’s shift to May is right in line with its overall approach to bucking expectations.

Chris Rock will play a police detective investigating a series of grisly crimes and Samuel L. Jackson will portray Rock’s father, Bloody Disgusting first reported. Also joining the cast will be Max Minghella (Horns, The Darkest Hour) who will play William Schenk, Rock’s partner and Marisol Nichols (Scream 2, “Riverdale”) will play Capt. Angie Garza, Rock’s boss.

The film will offer fans worldwide a new amped-up level of deviously treacherous traps, clever clues and the edge-of-the-seat suspense they expect from one of the world’s most terrifying horror franchises.

There’s still no word on if we’ll see Tobin Bell‘s Jigsaw in this new installment.

Writer in the horror community since 2008. Editor in Chief of Bloody Disgusting. Owns Eli Roth's prop corpse from Piranha 3D. Has four awesome cats. Still plays with toys.
