Last week I wrote up an article about the intense Spahn Ranch scene in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, noting that it felt like Quentin Tarantino‘s Texas Chain Saw Massacre and that it left me hungry for a full-on Tarantino horror movie. Tarantino, obviously, is a big fan of horror movies, but will Death Proof forever remain the closest he’ll ever come to making one?
Or could his tenth (and reportedly final) film be…a horror movie?
Tarantino was just asked this very question in a new interview, brought to our attention by reader Shaun Doherty. “Why not make your tenth film a horror movie?” Tarantino was asked.
“If I come up with a terrific horror film story, I *will* do that as my tenth film,” Tarantino replied.
He continued, “I love horror movies. I would love to do a horror film. And I do actually think that the Spahn Ranch sequence is the closest to a horror sequence. I do think it’s vaguely terrifying. And I didn’t quite realize how good we did it, frankly, until my editor told me. He goes, ‘the Spahn Ranch sequence is a horror film…it’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre with a budget.’”
Tarantino seems to be juggling a handful of potential projects as his tenth movie, including a rated “R” take on Star Trek and potentially even a third film in the Kill Bill series.
At this time, however, it seems he’s open to his final movie being something quite different.
