“R” Rating Sold in Violent ‘Terminator: Dark Fate’ Extended Red Band TV Spot [Exclusive]

I know the previous Terminator sequels left a bad taste in our collective mouths, but how can you not be excited for Terminator: Dark Fate, which retcons all those aforementioned films and kick-starts the insanity after James Cameron’s Judgment Day?

Just yesterday, the Tim Miller-directed followup officially became the first Terminator since Rise of the Machines to earn an “R” rating from the MPAA. In this exclusive extended red band TV spot, we get a taste of the reason why.

The spot expands on a lot of previously shown footage, including the REV-9 (Gabriel Luna) slaughtering the U.S. Border Patrol and also taking a hammer to the head from Mackenzie Davis’ human-robot hybrid Grace. And while there’s an insane amount of violence packed into a minute and 15 seconds, there’s also some great humor sprinkled with explicit language. When it’s revealed that Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s T-800 is going by the name “Carl”, a deadpan serious Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) looks the machine directly in the eyes and says, “I’m never gonna call you fucking ‘Carl’.”

Oh, and we also scored the film’s official synopsis!

More than two decades have passed since Sarah Connor prevented Judgment Day, changed the future, and re-wrote the fate of the human race. Dani Ramos (Natalia Reyes) is living a simple life in Mexico City with her brother (Diego Boneta) and father when a highly advanced and deadly new Terminator – a Rev-9 (Gabriel Luna) – travels back through time to hunt and kill her. Dani’s survival depends on her joining forces with two warriors: Grace (Mackenzie Davis), an enhanced super-soldier from the future, and a battle-hardened Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton). As the Rev-9 ruthlessly destroys everything and everyone in its path on the hunt for Dani, the three are led to a T-800 (Arnold Schwarzenegger) from Sarah’s past that may be their last best hope.

Terminator: Dark Fate opens October 31, on Halloween night!
