Lionsgate has just released a brand new trailer for the Darren Bousman-directed Spiral: From the Book of Saw, starring Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson, opening in theaters on May 14.
This is the first time we’ve seen the plot in action, sending Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson on the hunt for a presumed Jigsaw copycat killer. There’s a “reboot” aspect to Spiral, the ninth(!) entry in the Saw franchise, as you’ll see a brand new puppet to go along with a fresh design for the iconic pig mask first seen in the original Saw from James Wan and Leigh Whannell.
There’s also the promise of lots and lots of traps, one that may or may not be a spoiler.

A criminal mastermind unleashes a twisted form of justice in Spiral, the terrifying new chapter from the book of Saw. Working in the shadow of his father, an esteemed police veteran (Samuel L. Jackson), brash Detective Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks (Chris Rock) and his rookie partner (Max Minghella) take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past. Unwittingly entrapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer’s morbid game.
Spiral is produced by the original Saw team of Mark Burg and Oren Koules. The film is directed by Darren Lynn Bousman and written by Josh Stolberg & Pete Goldfinger.
