David Bruckner’s ‘Hellraiser’ Detailed By Hulu; Jamie Clayton is Pinhead and Clive Barker is Producing!
David Bruckner (The Night House), who helmed Netflix’s The Ritual as well as sections of Bloody Disgusting’s horror anthologies V/H/S and Southbound, is directing the relaunch of the Hellraiser franchise for Spyglass Media, set to be a Hulu feature film written by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski (SiREN, Super Dark Times, The Night House).
That film has now been fully detailed by an official Hulu press release this afternoon, announcing that “Sense8” actress Jamie Clayton is playing Pinhead in the new movie!
The project is being described as a “loyal, yet evolved re-imagining of Clive Barker’s 1987 horror classic,” and we’ve additionally learned that Clive Barker is on board as a producer.
“Original creator Barker, alongside Marc Toberoff, come aboard as producers, joining Phantom Four’s David S. Goyer and Keith Levine. As previously announced, David Bruckner (“The Night House”, “The Ritual,”) is directing from a screenplay by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski (“The Night House,” “Super Dark Times”) with story by Goyer.”
Bruckner said, “It’s been such an honor to have Clive onboard to help support and shepherd us through the incredible universe he created so long ago. Combined with a fearless and committed cast, including the amazing Jamie Clayton, who fully embodies the role as the Hell Priest, we’re aiming to create a very special new chapter in the ‘Hellraiser’ legacy.”
Goyer said, “From the moment I first read ‘The Hellbound Heart,’ Clive Barker became one of my literary heroes. His work is transgressive and completely redefined the horror genre. Under the guiding hand of David Bruckner, we’re going back to the source and taking our inspiration from that original novella.”
Barker said, “Having seen some of the designs from David Bruckner’s new ‘Hellraiser’ film, they pay homage to what the first film created, but then take it to places it’s never been before. This is a ‘Hellraiser’ on a scale that I simply didn’t expect. David and his team are steeped in the story’s mythology, but what excites me is their desire to honour the original even as they revolutionize it for a new generation.”
Odessa A’zion (“Grand Army,” “Mark, Mary, & Some Other People,”) will also star, alongside Brandon Flynn (“13 Reasons Why,” “Ratched,”), Goran Visnjic (“The Boys,” “ER,”), Drew Starkey (“Outer Banks,” “Love, Simon,”), Adam Faison (“Everything’s Gonna Be Okay,” “Into the Dark”), Aoife Hinds (“Normal People,” “Anne Boleyn,”), and Hiam Abbass (“Blade Runner 2049,” “Succession.”).
Principal photography has wrapped on the production.
The re-imagining of Hellraiser will debut exclusively in the U.S. on Hulu.

Danny DeVito Joins Disney’s Live Action ‘The Haunted Mansion’ Movie!
The popular Disney attraction The Haunted Mansion is headed back to the big screen, with Justin Simien (Dear White People, Bad Hair) directing a new live action movie.
LaKeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, and Rosario Dawson are already part of the cast, and THR reports tonight that Danny DeVito has now also come on board!
The dark ride attraction, which launched in 1969 and is still going strong today at Disney parks, “sees theme park guests go inside a spooky and creepy manor that has a wide array of supernatural frights. It also features a graveyard’s worth of characters.” The most popular characters include Hatbox Ghost, Madame Leota, The Phantom and the Hitchhiking Ghosts.
THR notes, “The film follows a mother and her son who come across a mansion that is more than it seems while being orbited by various characters key to undressing the spooky mystery. DeVito will play a smug professor.”
Rob Minkoff directed the feature film The Haunted Mansion back in 2003, the first big screen adaptation of the ride. Eddie Murphy starred in the film. More recently, Guillermo del Toro was attached to adapt the ride for a brand new movie. Alas, it never came to life.
Katie Dippold (Ghostbusters 2016) is writing the new movie’s script for Disney.
Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich’s Rideback will be producing.
New Halloween special “Muppets Haunted Mansion” is now streaming on Disney+.
