The 'Smile' Trailer Is Finally Here and Taunts, "You're Going to Die!"

The road to Halloween is being paved with all kinds of box office success for the horror genre, with four horror movies currently in the top 10 on the charts. Those movies include Bloody Disgusting’s own Terrifier 2, which opened to an incredible $1.2 million from select showings in just 886 theaters, as well as Smile, now in its second weekend of release.

Parker Finn‘s Smile had an incredible second weekend at the domestic box office, scaring up an additional $19 million from Thursday through Sunday. That brings the film’s domestic total up to $49.8 million, with the worldwide total ballooning to a massive $89.8 million!

The reported production budget for Smile was $17 million, which means Paramount Pictures has already far surpassed the point of profitability for their latest theatrical horror outing.

As pointed out by Deadline, Smile actually had the best second weekend hold at the box office for a rated “R” horror movie since Jordan Peele’s Get Out back in 2017!

To bring some additional context to that statistic, Smile opened to $22 million domestically in its first weekend of release, nearly matching that amount in its SECOND weekend.

Horror just keeps on winning as we head towards Halloween!

In the film, “After witnessing a bizarre, traumatic incident involving a patient, Dr. Rose Cotter (Sosie Bacon) starts experiencing frightening occurrences that she can’t explain.

“As an overwhelming terror begins taking over her life, Rose must confront her troubling past in order to survive and escape her horrifying new reality.”

Smile also stars Jesse T Usher (“The Boys”), Kal PennRob Morgan (“Stranger Things”), Kyle Gallner (Scream 2022), and Caitlin Stasey (All Cheerleaders Die).

Meagan wrote in her Smile review for BD, “There’s a familiarity to the curse’s nature and formula, drawing easy comparisons to several beloved horror films. Even still, it’s well crafted and introduces a fresh feeling mythology, with some genuine scares along the way. Smile makes for a solid enough crowd pleaser heading into the Halloween season.”
