Insidious: The Red Door

In its second weekend of release, fifth franchise installment Insidious: The Red Door has been bumped to the #3 spot on the domestic box office charts, largely thanks to chart-topping new release Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. But that’s not bad news for the new Insidious movie, which has now officially passed the $100 million landmark.

Worldwide, Insidious: The Red Door has scared up $122,585,554, $58 million of which was made here in the United States. The international number is currently $64.5 million.

To date, the highest total worldwide number for the franchise is $167.8 million (Insidious: The Last Key), so that’s currently the number for Insidious: The Red Door to beat.

Will The Red Door become the highest grossing movie in the Insidious franchise in the coming weeks? We’ll be keeping a close eye on the box office charts. Stay tuned.

It’s important to note that the production budget for The Red Door was just $16 million, allowing the fifth franchise installment to achieve profitability in just a matter of days.

The decision to pivot backwards and refocus on the Lambert family seems to have been a smart one, with audiences flocking to the theater to finally see a direct continuation of the first two Insidious movies. You can consider The Red Door a “legacy sequel” of sorts, and yes, we’re also feeling pretty old to realize that Insidious Nostalgia has already become a thing.

13 years since the franchise launched… where does the time go?! The more important question? What’s next for the Insidious franchise? A spinoff has already been announced. It’s titled Thread: An Insidious Tale, with Mandy Moore and Kumail Nanjiani starring!

Deadline reports, “The story here is that of a husband and wife (Nanjiani and Moore) who enlist the help of a spell to travel back in time, such that they can prevent the death of their young daughter. The consequences, of course, prove to be severe.”

The franchise’s first spinoff film comes courtesy of Screen Gems, Blumhouse and James Wan’s Atomic Monster, and Jeremy Slater (“The Exorcist,” “Moon Knight”) is directing.

Slater also wrote the screenplay for Thread: An Insidious Tale.

Writer in the horror community since 2008. Editor in Chief of Bloody Disgusting. Owns Eli Roth's prop corpse from Piranha 3D. Has four awesome cats. Still plays with toys.

One of this summer’s most hotly anticipated new movies is A24 and Ti West’s MaXXXine, a follow-up to X and Pearl that brings Mia Goth’s title character into the 1980s.

With her past catching up to her, Maxine attempts to make it big as a superstar in Hollywood, 1985. While you wait, check out a new image below courtesy of USA Today this week.

Releasing in theaters on July 5, 2024, MaXXXine is rated “R” for…

“Strong violence, gore, sexual content, graphic nudity, language and drug use.”

If you missed the official trailer, you can watch it right here.

Mia Goth stars alongside Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, Halsey, Lily Collins, Giancarlo Esposito and Kevin Bacon in MaXXXine.

Here’s the official plot synopsis from A24 this week: “In 1980s Hollywood, adult film star and aspiring actress Maxine Minx finally gets her big break. But as a mysterious killer stalks the starlets of Hollywood, a trail of blood threatens to reveal her sinister past.”

Last we saw Maxine in Ti West’s X (2022), she was the sole survivor of a massacre carried out by elderly couple Howard and Pearl in the Summer of ’79. Goth of course pulled double duty as the villain Pearl in that movie, who got her own origin story in Pearl (2022). Pearl and Maxine are different characters, but they share the common goal of wanting to be stars.

Will Maxine finally make it in Hollywood? Or will the demons of her past become her ultimate downfall? With the Night Stalker roaming free, we expect MaXXXine to get wild this summer.
