The ‘Masters of the Universe’ Live Action Reboot Movie Is Finally Coming… in 2026

masters of the universe reboot

A brand new live action Masters of the Universe movie has been in the works for several years now with various different cast and crew involved, and even a few release dates tossed around and ultimately tossed away. But Deadline brings us the latest update this week, revealing that Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films are getting serious about the project.

Masters of the Universe has now been set for theatrical release on June 5, 2026, with Travis Knight (Bumblebee) on board to direct He-Man’s return to the big screen.

Adam and Aaron Nee (The Lost City) wrote the original version of the script with David Callaham (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), which Chris Butler will rewrite.

Deadline reports, “The movie follows ten-year-old Prince Adam who crashed to Earth in a spaceship and was separated from his magical Power Sword—the only link to his home on Eternia. After tracking it down almost two decades later, Prince Adam is whisked back across space to defend his home planet against the evil forces of Skeletor.

“But to defeat such a powerful villain, Prince Adam will first need to uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man: the most powerful man in the Universe.”

The movie will be based on the beloved Mattel toyline, which spawned a successful animated TV series (1983-85) as well as the 1987 live-action film starring Dolph Lundgren as He-Man. The property centers on the warrior He-Man, the last hope of a magical land called Eternia.

The new movie comes from Amazon MGM Studios, Mattel, and Escape Artist.
