Official Trailer for ‘George A. Romero’s Resident Evil’ Documentary Begs the Question of “What Happened?”[Trailer]
We had the teaser for the upcoming documentary on George A. Romero‘s failed Resident Evil project way back in March. And now, thanks to the fine people at Residence of Evil, we now have the full trailer for director Brandon Salisbury‘s George A. Romero’s Resident Evil, which is slated for a 2024 release.
Produced by Key 13 Films in association with Point Five Films and written by Salisbury and Robbie McGregor, the documentary provides a look back at what went down with Romero’s script for Resident Evil and Constantin Films back in 1998. George A. Romero’s Resident Evil is a stylized documentary, utilizing archived footage, unearthed documents, and newly filmed interviews with a wide variety of personalities.
Much like the teaser before it, the trailer does delve into fan service with clips of the first game, Romero’s Night of the Living Dead, recreations of the S.T.A.R.S members in the forest and more. The documentary itself will be combining elements from Capcom’s classic video game series (taking place in a mansion that echoes the look of Resident Evil‘s Spencer Mansion) and the raw, visceral style of George A. Romero to fully immerse the audience in a cinematic horror aesthetic.

Here’s the official plot synopsis from A24 this week: “In 1980s Hollywood, adult film star and aspiring actress Maxine Minx finally gets her big break. But as a mysterious killer stalks the starlets of Hollywood, a trail of blood threatens to reveal her sinister past.”
Last we saw Maxine in Ti West’s X (2022), she was the sole survivor of a massacre carried out by elderly couple Howard and Pearl in the Summer of ’79. Goth of course pulled double duty as the villain Pearl in that movie, who got her own origin story in Pearl (2022). Pearl and Maxine are different characters, but they share the common goal of wanting to be stars.
Will Maxine finally make it in Hollywood? Or will the demons of her past become her ultimate downfall? With the Night Stalker roaming free, we expect MaXXXine to get wild this summer.
