Adam McKay’s ‘Average Height, Average Build’ Serial Killer Comedy No Longer Happening
Despite putting together a great cast, the serial killer comedy Average Height, Average Build from Oscar-winning filmmaker Adam McKay (Vice, Don’t Look Up) is no longer in the works.
Per Deadline, the filmmaker is opting to direct a climate-related project next and will no longer be helming the serial killer comedy. McKay had penned Average Height, Average Build and brought the project to Netflix, and there is currently no plans to move forward with the film without him.
Average Height, Average Build was announced earlier this year, with Robert Pattinson, Amy Adams, Robert Downey Jr., Forest Whitaker and Danielle Deadwyler set to lead the cast of the upcoming genre comedy. What a tremendous cast assembled, too.
In the film, Pattinson was to play “a serial killer who enlists a lobbyist (Adams) to change laws that will allow him to get away with murder more easily. Downey was to play a retired cop who won’t give up on the murders, and the killer tries to prevent him from dogging his trail now that he’s hung up his gun. The serial killer turns himself into a cause celebre, a Mr. Smith Goes to Washington figure shielding his true motives.”
While this means we won’t be seeing Pattinson play a serial killer in the near future, we can next look forward to seeing him lead Bong Joon-ho’s upcoming sci-fi feature Mickey 17 before donning the Batman mask once more for Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II.
McKay’s 2021 film Don’t Look Up centered on the climate crisis, and the filmmaker has been active outside the industry in raising awareness. The film was nominated for four Academy Awards and performed very well on Netflix. So, it’s no surprise that he’s shifted focus for his next directing project and seeks to continue working with the streaming platform.

Brad Dourif Teases New ‘Chucky’ Movie Will Be Unlike Anything Fans Expect
Don Mancini is hard at work scripting a brand new Chucky movie, which will take the franchise is an unexpected new direction according to the voice behind killer doll Chucky.
Don’t expect the new film to pick up from where the series left off, Academy Award nominee Brad Dourif teased at the Creep I.E. Cinema panel hosted by Bloody Disgusting this weekend.
“If I know Don, I would say what he’s going to do is something completely different that I hadn’t thought of, that nobody had thought of,” the actor tells the audience.
It’s worth noting that the upcoming film is still in early development. So much so that Dourif has heard multiple different ideas for the ninth film in Mancini’s Chucky universe. “There is actually going to be another film made,’ Dourif explains, “I’ve heard maybe three pitches —that’s not a detail, and I’m not saying what they are—but they’re all different.”
Emmy nominee Fiona Dourif was on hand to prevent her dad from spoiling any plot details, of course.
As we reported back in April, Don Mancini is aiming to make Chucky scary again in the brand new Chucky movie that will finally bring the (original) killer doll back to the big screen. Mancini’s plan is to return the franchise to the tone of Curse of Chucky as well as the first two original Child’s Play movies, once again dialing back the comedy and hijinks.
Brad Dourif voiced Chucky in all of the original Child’s Play movies as well as more recent installments Curse of Chucky and Cult of Chucky, and all three seasons of the TV series. And Dourif doesn’t plan on giving the character to anyone else anytime soon. He recently told the crowd at Spooky Empire, “Nobody’s doing Chucky but me.”
Stay tuned for more updates on all things Chucky.
