Ryan Gosling (Project Hail Mary) has made no secret of the fact that he’d love to play Ghost Rider in a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, and it was back in 2022 that he first expressed those desires. But have any discussions actually taken place in the last four years?
Ryan Gosling tells Happy Sad Confused in a new chat that he’s still keeping his Ghost Rider hopes alive. And it sounds like conversations with Marvel have definitely taken place.
“We’ll keep hope alive,” Gosling tells host Josh Horowitz in a new interview in promotion of Project Hail Mary. “Some discussions have been had. It’s a complicated situation.”
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige was asked about Ryan Gosling joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Ghost Rider back in 2022, and he seemed quite receptive to the idea.
Feige told MTV News at the time, “Hey man, if Ryan wants to be Ghost Rider… Gosling’s unbelievable. Ryan’s amazing. I’d love to find a place for him in the MCU.”
Johnny Blaze is of course the most iconic and well-known Ghost Rider, selling his soul to Satan and becoming a supernatural badass. Nicolas Cage brought Blaze to life on screen in both 2007’s Ghost Rider and 2011’s Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, while Gabriel Luna more recently played the Robbie Reyes version of Ghost Rider in the series “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”
Luna was set to star in his own Ghost Rider spinoff series in the wake of that small screen appearance, but that Hulu project ended up being squashed before it ever had a chance.
What does Nicolas Cage hope to see from Ghost Rider’s eventual big screen return? Cage feels that now is the time for a proper Rated “R” movie featuring the fiery character.
“Had Ghost Rider been made in R-rated format, the way they had the guts to do with Deadpool, and they did it again today, I’m fairly certain it would be enormously successful,” Cage told Yahoo! in 2018. He told Joblo the same year, “Ghost Rider was designed to be a scary superhero with an R-rating and edge and they just didn’t have it worked out back then.”
Would you like to see Ryan Gosling in a rated “R” Ghost Rider movie?
