Kevin Williamson is doubling down on his recent statement that he has no plans to return to the director’s chair for the next installment in the Scream saga.
“This was always going to be one and done,” he tells The Ankler. “I hope it’s not a surprise to anybody. This is the one I was going to do and Neve [Campbell] came back for it. This is it and I’m happy.”
While he won’t be helming the inevitable Scream 8, Williamson says, “I’m a phone call away.” He adds, “As long as it stays fun, I would love to be a part of it. If they need my help, I’ll come running.”
Williamson continues, “What I’d love to do before I die is to create another horror franchise, but that all starts with just one movie. You have to make one great movie and see what happens.”
Directed and co-written by Williamson, Scream 7 became the slasher franchise’s highest-grossing entry with $195 million worldwide.

Williamson is currently developing a show he describes as “adult ‘Vampire Diaries’” with the Universal monsters.
