Grin At The “Official” One-Sheet For ‘Smiley’

Published

on

A second (mostly revised) trailer and official one-sheet has been released for director Michael Gallagher’s (“Totally Sketch”) Smiley.

Beginning October 12, AMC will exclusively release the film theatrically through its AMC independent platform on 28 screens in 14 markets including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Houston and Atlanta. The release will also be supported by a marketing campaign from AMC.

The story of the film follows a mentally fragile college student named Ashley (Caitlin Gerard from “Magic Mike” and “The Social Network”) who, after learning of an urban legend in which a mysterious serial killer named “Smiley” can be summoned through the Internet, must decide whether she is losing her mind or becoming Smiley‘s next victim.Smiley also stars Melanie Papalia (“Endgame”) and Andrew James Allen (“Make It or Break It”), with Roger Bart (“Desperate Housewives”), Keith David (“The Thing”) and Liza Weil (“Scandal”) rounding out the cast.

Smiley, co-written by YouTube sensation Gallagher and Glasgow Phillips (“South Park”), and produced by Michael Wormser (“Some Guy Who Kills People”) of Level 10 Films, has an enormous fan base to call on. Gallagher and his YouTube partners on “Totally Sketch,” as well as the other performers in the film including Shane Dawson (“Shane Dawson’s TV”) and Toby Turner (“The Annoying Orange”), have over 11 million subscribers, 2.2 billion views and 4 million plus fans on Facebook/Twitter combined. The trailer has accumulated over 15 million views since its debut.

In addition to the AMC release, the film will be available on more traditional platforms including DVD, Blu-Ray, iTunes, Redbox and cable VOD after the traditional theatrical release window has closed.

After a massively successful box office run that scared up $364 million (and counting) at the worldwide box office, Kane Parsons’ Backrooms is now available on Digital at home.

You can either digitally rent or digitally purchase the A24 horror film on outlets including Amazon Prime, and it’ll cost you $19.99 for the rental and $24.99 for the purchase.

As for the extended 16-minutes of footage that were included with the recent theatrical event Backrooms: Everything Must Go Edition, Parsons promises it’s coming online.

The extra footage is expected to hit the Kane Pixels YouTube channel this week.

The sixteen minutes of “Everything Must Go” footage essentially plays out like a new episode of Kane Parsons’ Backrooms YouTube series. You can read all about it right here.

No word yet on a physical release for Backrooms. Stay tuned.

Chiwetel Ejiofor stars in Backrooms as the owner of Cap’n Clark’s Ottoman Empire, who discovers a strange doorway in the basement of the furniture showroom. He sets out to explore the mysterious, liminal space, walking headfirst into a creepypasta nightmare.

Renate Reinsve (A Different Man) also stars in Backrooms.

Meagan wrote in her review, “Backrooms is at once complex and sparse, but never repetitive. It might be set in 1990, but it effectively captures modern anxieties and isolation in a way that frequently makes your skin crawl. While the journey ultimately loses steam by its cryptic end, Parsons’ visual representation of the human psyche disturbs like no other.”

YouTube prodigy Kane Parsons makes his feature directorial debut based on his creepypasta-inspired video series, which debuted in 2022 and has amassed over 190 million views to date.
